Thallus continuous to rimose, yellowish white to pale grey, epruinose, sometimes glossy. Soredia farinose, whitish, in distinct orbicular soralia 0.25–0.5 mm in diam. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia sessile or constricted at base, 0.4–0.7 mm diam.; disc pale yellow-brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with disc, thin, entire, at first distinct, later becoming excluded. Cortex and algal cells absent. Excipulum hyaline, composed of parallel radiating hyphae, branched and anastomosing. Epihymenium pale brown to hyaline, c. 5 µm thick, lacking crystals. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and slightly thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 8.0–13.0 × 4.0–6.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale yellow; containing atranorin (major), 2’-O-methylperlatolic acid (major), chloroatranorin (minor), 2’-O-methylisohyperlatolic acid (minor) and 2’-O-methylsuperlatolic acid (minor). | ||
An endemic, saxicolous species in tropical northern Australia (W.A., N.T. and Qld). It is very common in the Kimberley region of W.A.; grows on sheltered rock faces in open woodland and gallery forest. | ||
